Wanaka Swimming – Invasion of the Clutha!

Monday, February 6th, Waitangi Day, 4pm, Invade The Clutha! Meet at The Outlet at 4pm sharp, car pool to Albert Town Bridge and bring the bodies back to The Outlet for a float to Albert Town. Then back to The Outlet for wine and crackers! I do reallise that it would be easier to meet at the bottom end, but I know there would be confusion created with getting to the right spot so we’ll meet at Outlet, we all know where that is???

Some go down in a wet suit, some go down in a life jacket, some even go down in a tyre! I’m sure some have gone down in their speedoes. But not me! The water in the Clutha is significantly colder than at the lake edge and you’ll be about an hour getting to Albert Town so if you are of a warmer type of blood, you’re gonna get cold.

And the Clutha is not particularly high at the moment so be aware that the “rapids” will require negotiation! If you are of faint heart, perhaps leave this one out, we’ll be back, victorious, at The Outlet at about 5.30, wine o’clock!

So may see you there. If you’re not interested in a river float such as this, there are still swimmers meeting at the Meadowstone Corner on Sunday morning at 8.30am. Hopefully the water will be glassy, as it was this morning. This Sunday, there is also a group meeting at the beach at the start of Fisherman’s Track – see previous post – at same time of 8.30am, for a swim to the Beacon. Lots to choose from!

And wherever you swim, enjoy!

  1. I am really looking forward to this ‘adventure’ down the Clutha River. Zelda is coming with me too with a life jacket AND a swimming ring. She’s keen as! Can’t wait!!!
