F–ing January Challenge: And the winner is…

After much badgering of members to submit results, many hours of tedious data entry, and a minor debate over how to handle swimmers with dual membership status (ahem, Francois) the Club Committees in Wanaka and Queenstown are prepared to announce the winners of the 2021 Inter-Club Swimming Challenge: The F–ing January Edition.

With a grand total of 1105 points, Queenstown is this year’s clear winner! Congratulations!

Here’s the breakdown:

Queenstown, 39 swimmers, 1105 points. Total kms: 805. Total swims: 343. Total attempts at Fast Lap: 7.

Wanaka, 41 swimmers, 1067 points. Total kms: 662. Total swims: 394. Total attempts at Fast Lap: 11.

It was a close competition, but Queenstown crushed it for distance and came out the overall champion. Wanaka swimmers claim the titles for the Frequent-est (Krystle Theunissen, 32!) and the Fastest (Sal McMath 11:28.80!!). Queenstown takes the Farthest (Francois Lambrechts, 171km!!!).

A glitzy awards ceremony will take place at the end of the season, April 10th. Each Club will honor outstanding achievements within their own ranks, as well as wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories. I would also expect some creative shaming of members who failed to submit any results for the Challenge.

This Challenge was a huge success, with many swimmers pushing personal limits and achieving personal bests. Many of you were in the water way more than you would be normally, racking up miles and braving yucky conditions just to keep a streak alive.

Well done, keep swimming, and thanks for playing!
